The North Face® Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® has become an exceptional event, a summit in all respects, in which more than forty thousand runners have taken part. To hail the "tenth", we have chosen to publish a film and two books which will …stand out!

- A myth, a territory, men, by Olivier Bessy

For about ten years, runners have come from Worldwide and volunteers have gathered from the hillsides to find themselves around Mont Blanc to celebrate such a high set of values. These two peoples, from Worldwide and Mont Blanc, what connects them? What explains the success of a running race henceforth recognized as the most beautiful of all times? What evolution in our leisure societies? What evolution in sporting practice?
Olivier Bessy, professor at the University of Pau and the Pays de l'Adour, answers with the double relevance of the sociologist and the geographer, and attempts to explain how this myth of an exceptional fertility and a feeling of territorial identity within the nearby alpine populations of France, Switzerland and Italy developed. Reaching his analysis, at the end of the book, he pays tribute in all the finishers since 2003 the list of which he publishes, matched by the performances which they realised.
